Q I have a problem with the rear screen wiper on my 2009 Skoda Octavia 1.4. When I use the rear wiper, it sometimes stops midscreen. The wiper fuse is OK and I believe the problem may be the relay. Could you advise me how to remove the rear window lining?
A The tailgate trim is removed by first undoing the fixing screws of the door handle. The trim is then secured only by fixing clips. The clips are very strong and a plastic lever is usually required behind the trim to ease each one off in turn. According to my wiring diagram, there isn’t a separate relay for the rear wiper (only the rear wash wipe function) and it is controlled by the BCM (body control module).
One of the more common failures on the rear motor is due to damage caused by washer fluid breaching the tube that runs through the centre of the spindle. Once the rear trim panel is removed, I would check the back plate of the assembly for any signs of water damage.
